As soon as I find the button..

If I could only find the start button on the new microwave, I could warm the coffee and then maybe I could do the things and have something to report in a bit.

*Update* I have found the button!!!!! It’s not labeled as start; how odd is that?!?

Lil Kid at Heart

I ended up soaked up to my waist; my partner was complaining about the rain getting him wet just as I jumped and soaked both of us. :) Totally worth it!

Wet dog

Well, I am now soaking wet accented by the water dripping from bangs, but I did successfully make it to my car for my stitching supplies!!!! The GOTH (Guardians of the Heart) conference has been great so far today!!!! I think I’ll go inside to stitch just to make sure I don’t lose track of time again today! Now to make the trip back....
Of all the days to forget my cap at home. I hope that you are curled up somewhere warm and dry with a book and some stitchin’ drinking hot cocoa! Now that it’s raining even harder, I’m going to head inside!
Happy stitchin!

Woo Hoo

Yay!!!! I accomplished my goal of one row and still had time to go to the bathroom before it started!!!! Success!!! Now if only I had remembered to take a pic, lol!

Stitchin’

Well, the conference has been most interesting thus far. That said, I have happily slipped away to my car to stitch and have a chat with youns during our lunch break. Yesterday was a blissful day. Sunday morning service was wonderful, and I got to stitch for a few hours that afternoon! Here’s yesterday’s progress:
It was movie night at church; we started The Miracle of the Cards; so far, I’m in love with the movie! Well, I’m gonna see if I can get a row stitched before going back. Youns have a great day!
Happy Stitching!

How to

feel like an idiot, Step 1. Be surrounded by hundreds of people at a conference for EMS, nurses, etc. (Basically, 98.78% of them are the most judgements people you could pick. EMS loves to pick on each other, especially if you are from a rival service, nurses and paramedics debate who is able to do more; you get the idea. )Step 2. Try to twist the top off your water bottle since you are thirsty and would like a drink. Step 3. Attempt this for at least 30 seconds without looking down. Step 4. Notice ridges. Step 5. Look down and realize that the cap is already off. Step 6. Resist the urge to look around and see how many people noticed. Step 7. Ignore step 6.
If you follow these directions exactly, you are sure to accomplish the goal!

Hiyah!

Well, we just had 38 candles, so according to Mom’s birthday cake she’s just 38. And you can bet your floss that she’s  sticking with it too!

We had a fun day shopping! I’m hoping to stitch after the morning church service tomorrow. Since I don’t have any progress to post, here’s something I found on Pinterest that I found a lot funnier than I should admit to!

Cinnamon Heart

Is back to play! I made a lil progress while at the Dr.’s office... I did my best to send off a leave-me-alone-I’m-stitching vibe since there was a lot of weirdos there today. I made a lil more progress this evening as well.
Please bear with me if I don’t post a lot in the next few days. Tomorrow is my Mom’s birthday, so I’ll be spending the day shopping with her. On Monday and Tuesday I have an EMS conference to go to. I’ll still try to post in between everything.
Here’s hoping we’ll both have our needles flying!

Holy Pronunciation, Batman!

Tonight I am Batman. And Batman forgets how to speak on the radio. “416 to dispatch.” “Go ahead.”Show us... clerrr... ummm... -avail-... er-ble and dcvnkliyrsaadghjjkk...” *Stops keying up mic while giggling uncontrollably* Turns to partner; “Where the crap are we?” Re-keys mic; stammers a bit and finally spits out “in ummm..er...qua-... quarters” while accidentally talking over dispatch copying that 416 is available and “ in quarters.” Robin and I then discussed how English and words are hard. And how our Batmobile-disguised-as-a-ambulance should be equipped with a Batphone to aid in future communications with dispatch.
Stay tuned for more from our caped crusaders later. Same bat-time, same bat-channel!Na na na na na na na na na na na na Batman!
May your utility belt always be stocked!
Sincerely yours,
Batman

Fiona

Back at work today. So far I’ve watched a movie and done very little sewing. The poor 12 hr truck has been pretty steady though. I’m sure my turn will come. Here’s the tiny bit of progress I made; you’ll have to look very closely or you will miss it:
I also realized that I haven’t introduced Fiona yet. I first saw Fiona while getting groceries with my Mom and immediately fell in love with her. So, without further ado, here’s Fiona.
Why hello, dahling, can you believe how long it took for her to introduce me?!? “Immediately fell in love,” my tail feathers! I am the one that tries to help this poor delusional girl have some sort of fashion sense and social life, and it’s a full time job at that! Why, just yesterday morning, would you look at what the child was wearing!?!
I told her that she should be ashamed of herself and change toot sweet! And do you know what that dreadful creature told me? That it was morning and that she could wear her pajamas and clashing robe for as long as she wished. She had the audacity to wear them for hours! Just to mortify me! Not only that, but when she realized I slipped behind her to take a picture to show you what I have to deal with every day, she told me I would regret it! Can you believe the gall, the unmitigated gall, of some people?!? I tell you, dahling, I have my feathers full with this one. Well, since it’s icy out, maybe she’ll slip, hit her head, and magically start to listen to me! Well, ta ta for now dahling-and remember to always listen to your flamingo friend. After all, a  flamingo knows best! ~ Fiona

Here’s hoping that your bossy flamingo friend is at home when you are at work... she insisted that it was Bring-Your-Flamingo-To-Work Day and then stowed away in the car when I told her no way. Maybe the supervisor won’t find out... I’ll have to duct tape her mouth shut to get her to keep it down enough to have a chance. I wonder if rolled gauze or medical tape would work...

Chicken Thief

Last shift was steady until after midnight. Thankfully, we all got sleep undisturbed after that. :).  I’m afraid that’s the only  excuse I have for not posting this earlier. And I honestly have none for yesterday, I just lost track of time. Enough of my lame and absent excuses; on to  my belated boo-boo bus tale. So here goes: we was dispatched to a residence for  a 50-something year old female that is unconscious with a history of diabetes. Now, this residence takes approximately 20 min to reach running lights and sirens. Oh, the joys of rural EMS! Anyhow, we remembered going to this residence once before when her blood sugar was too high. She had been combative then; we hoped she wouldn’t be this time. Neither of us was in the mood to bob and weave while trying to do our jobs. Unfortunately, this residence is a trailor located in a makeshift trailer lot in the midst of some woods. This lot is super sketchy... as in, nicknamed Sketchville with the occasional Methville thrown in. Ok, enough back story. So, as we’re bee-do-ing along to the house, dispatch advised us that the volunteer agency had been toned twice without any response. They wanted to know if we wanted them toned a third time. Now, our dispatch has to contact their dispatch who contacts them. So, instead of going through all of that rig-a-ma-row, my partner called their dispatch. They was able to contact the chief and got a firefighter en route. Once we arrived, the firefighter was already there, but he hadn’t gone in yet. I grabbed the red bag and lead the way. We found our pt half on and half off the bed. We moved her entirely on to the bed and began assessing her. She would barely move her arms in response to a sternal rub (a form of painful stimuli used to determine just how out of it someone is; it works great to change the minds of most folks playing possum ;)]. She was breathing just fine and continued snoring while we prepped our equipnent. She was freezing to the touch with damp clothing. Her husband said that he last saw her about a hour ago, so we’re guessed that she had been down for close to that amount of time. Our glucometer read low, which means that her blood glucose is less than 20 or 25; I forget which it is with our glucometers. Anyway, I had the boys hold her arms down as I went to start an IV. Just as I saw flash, she twisted her arm just enough to pop the needle through the other side of her vein. I moved to the other side of her bed and realized that I was going to have to climb across the bed. Not my most favoritest thing to do in places of highly questionable clean-ness. At least there wasn’t enough light to see too terribly much. I hopped up, without falling, might I add, which was nothing short of a miracle, and crawled over to her. I found a lovely vein, had the firefighter hold her arm and off we went. After placing that line with very minimal movements from the pt, I gave her an entire amp of D-50. Now, this usually works great. After several minutes, the pt usually returns to normal. She was a bit slower coming around. She slowly started to move some and opened her eyes and looked around.  We kept coaxing her and finally got her to tell us her name. She kept complaining of being cold, so her husband sweetly covered her with blankets. Whenever we would ask her anything, she would just say “I don’t know” and “I’m cold.”  I finally coaxed her into looking around the room. “Where do you think you are?” Why, I’m at my home.” “Correct! Now, can you tell me what year it is?” “Nope.” “How bout you give me a wild guess?” “No, I don’t think so. I’m cold.”  “Ok, if we help you sit up, do you think you can eat a sandwich? The medicine we gave you will wear off soon.”  She wasn’t too sure about that, but she was awake enough to eat now, so we pulled her up to a sitting position. She was also very adamant that she did not want to go to the hospital.  Her husband came back with juice and asked if she wanted her ham sandwich heated or not. As expected, she practically yelled “Heated!” We kept trying to coax her into guessing the year without any luck. She’s always a stubborn fart and this time was no different. We coaxed her into drinking most of the juice and eating her sandwich. Her husband had sweetly cut the sandwich into bite-sized pieces, which sped the process up. She asked if she could have something warm to drink. A few minutes later, her husband returned with some soup broth. By this time, we had collectively bundled her up like an Eskimo, but she was still cold. By this time, the firefighter, my partner, and myself were getting a bit jittery. We had been on scene for close to a hour; my partner had a recliner that needed held down at the station, and I had a movie to watch and project to stitch. Gotta watch those recliners and projects; they’re liable to jump up and run away if no one is there to hold them down! We kept coaxing and begging her to no avail. We couldn’t leave until she became A&Ox4 (alert and oriented to person, place, time, and event). My partner grabbed our bag and headed to the truck to grab the computer. I kept trying to get her to either guess the year or agree to go to the hospital. She remained stubborn about both. When my partner returned, he had an odd look on his face. I asked him what was wrong; he told me he would tell me later. After much pleading for close to a hour, she was finally able to tell us the month and year. We obtained her info and signature, asked the husband to keep an eye on her, and went out to our truck. We thanked the firefighter and headed out. My partner told me that when he was tossing the bag in the back, he heard clucking. He looked inside and saw a chicken sitting in the middle of our cot. Apparently,  she felt that if her owner wouldn’t allow us to bring her to the hospital, then it’s a loyal chicken’s  duty to go in her owner’s place. When my partner closed the side door, she squawked and left out the back doors in a flurry of feathers. And that, my dear friends, is how I almost became a chicken thief. I hope your stitching is chicken free!

Good Help

Good help is so hard to find! Some nincompoop forgot to trace one set of the bee’s eyelashes! Hmmmmm, I wonder who that could that be...
Come to think of it, they also stitched that one eyeball weird, too... I’m gonna blame it on this guy:
He looks awfully squirrely, don’tcha think? Sorry, it’s a rare day that I can resist a pun- I find them very “punny!” Ok, even I have to admit, that last one was terrible! I hope you are snuggled up under a fuzzy blanket with hot chocolate and a stitchy project wherever you are!

Procrastination

Well, I’m on a bit of role today. At least I am so far. I actually got up early (a bit of miracle on my second day off, unless I have to go somewhere), I exercised (I was a good girl too- I used the long exercise dvd instead of one of the short ones!), and I finally changed out the lightbulbs in the second light in my bathroom (I got tired of going to bathroom in the dark. What can I say? Even laziness has its limits!). My hair is still wet from shower, so I’ll wait to go outside and play with the critters til it dries. I’d hate to catch my death of cold as my family says! I’m thinking that now might be a good time to work on Mr. Bumblebee. I can’t go do stuff outside (my hair is still wet, remember? ;)) and I can’t go work on my closet-that-doubles-as-my-craft-room because... ummmm.... my hair is still wet? Well, I’ll come up with a better excuse for putting that off until later today as well. Yup, procrastination is the theme for today! That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. I’m looking forward to organizing some new stitchy supplies, I just dread having to  deal with the part of my closet that still functions as a closet. Oi, that part needs help. Whelp, I’m off to ignore the clutter and  stitch! Maybe I’ll stitch in the living room so the sight of the mess won’t make me feel guilty...
I hope your stitching place is more organized than mine!

Today

Today has been an ok day so far! I had to leave much earlier than usual for work this morning. I think Missouri’s new policy on winter weather and road conditions is “Just deal with it.”  My Mom told me that the interstate hadn’t even been touched! That’s always the first to get treated! Not sure what’s up with that, the guys and gals from MoDOT did great with the interstate and several main roads earlier this winter. Total subject change, I’m getting ready to pick threads out for this guy:
Hopefully, I can make some significant progress on him before going to sleep! I have absolutely no excuse for not having stitched yet today. My shift started at 08:00 today and it’s not been bad at all. Just the usual morning stuff, followed by QAing reports, and a couple of calls that didn’t last long at all. After the call this morning I took a ridiculously long nap. I got to bed early and slept well, but I guess my body didn’t like the whole getting up earlier thing. One minute, I was watching a movie in my Bat Cave (my affectionate term for the bedroom I use at work), and the next thing I know, it’s after 5 and I’ve slept for waaaaayy too many hours. Crazy thing is, I’m pretty sure I’ll sleep well tonight as long as everyone behaves themselves and skips getting sick tonight. Truth be told, I’ll either go to sleep early or lose track of time Stitching. Only time will tell! Well, I’ll leave youns with a few pictures I took this morning of the sunrise. If I’m up early enough to see it, I may as well enjoy it and share it with others, right?

Slacker

Sorry for being such a slacker last week! My last shift ended up being a bit rough. We had a non-injury lift assist in the morning. A sweet elderly woman had fallen out of her wheelchair trying to clean up broken glass. We helped her back up, cleaned up the glass, and gave her super friendly dogs their due attention. After that, we went and got lunch, which is like the best time of the day ever! Well, my lunch did not agree me with very well. Sooooo, even though we had several hours of nothingness that I normally would have filled with stitching, napping, reading, movie watching, and, I know its a dirty word, exercise. Instead, I spent it throwing a pity party for myself interrupted by the occasional trip to the bathroom. At this point, I should probably let you know that I'm a bit stubborn, and had decided that I was not sick enough to go home. After a few hours, I felt better and quit whining about life. At some point, we took a lady to Crappy Big City Hospital for diarrhea from the night before and body aches. She absolutely could have gone to the hospital in town instead of one a hour away, but she insisted, so off  we went. She complained the whole way there. I started her IV on the way. When I saw that beautiful flash in the chamber, she snarkily stated, "You're not very good at this, now are you?" Now, ordinarily I would have just ignored this. However, I was feeling my cheerios and decided to respond. In the lightest, friendliest voice I believe I have ever used in the history of my whole-entire-life, I said, "I'm not really sure why you think, since I got the IV on the first time while we was moving." She totally missed this and was surprised when I flushed her IV out. She asked me what I was going to do with that, and I told her I was going to put it through her IV. The dumbfounded look on her face when she realized I had already gotten the IV was priceless! We was instructed to bring her out to triage. Totally appropriate for this patient. She was super upset over this and almost refused to get off the cot. My partner and I allowed 1.75 min to complain and then helped her up and into a wheelchair. Had we not, we would still be standing out in the hospital foyer.
Later that night, we ran on a gentleman in town. FD advised us to stage because PD had already been there 3 times in the past couple of hours for a gentleman possibly hallucinating. Oddly enough, we hadn't been called out then. So we staged. It felt really weird to do so since the call was for a chest pain, but I would much rather stay away for a few minutes then rush in and shot by some guy thinking that I'm a gang member there to kill him. Anyhow, the police arrived, cleared the scene, and away we went. As soon as we stepped out of the truck, we was both slapped by the incredibly strong smell of marijuana. The closer we got to the house, the stronger the smell of BO. This gentleman was living in horrid conditions that included junk piled up, no heat, no running water, and an extension cord running out a window, presumably to a neighbor's, that powered a rusted out and shorted out toaster oven (at least I think that was what it was; it was too dark in there to tell). My EMT, a firefighter, and a police officer stayed outside because of the stench. A second officer stood at the door in case we needed help. He kept his head stuck outside for easier breathing. My favorite police officer came inside with the other firefighter and myself. The gentleman was very scattered and adamant about going to Tiny Local Hospital. He was alert and oriented, so I couldn't force him to go elsewhere. While he gathered his medications, I distracted myself from the roaches I was trying to not see by trying not to laugh at the police officer trying incredibly hard not to gag. Good show, officer, good show! Once we got him out to the truck, we started checking him out and explaining why he really needs to go to one of the Big City Hospitals. He refused and started getting angry. We called Tiny Local Hospital at their request, answered a billion questions, and was told that they would divert us. No surprise there. Well, telling the pt (abbreviation for patient) this resulted in extreme anger, so we called Tiny Local Hospital back and spoke with the Doc. He just told me what I already knew, and I explained that I knew that he would be transferred out and that he needed to go elsewhere, which was why we tried to get him to go to a bigger hospital, and how he was now becoming extremely aggressive and refused to go anywhere. By this time, my partner informed me that the gentleman had lice (again, no surprise).... just as the Doc asked to speak to him. I reluctantly handed my phone over to my partner (I stood outside the truck while making the phone call), and the pt told the Dr. the same thing that he told us. The phone was handed back to me. I put it on speakerphone as the Dr. reiterated everything that he already said that I already knew while the firefighter laughed at me. I'm sure I looked like a small child getting a scolding. Well, we calmed the pt down again and transported him to the local hospital. They was none too happy to see us, but they'll be ok. The rest of the shift was uneventful until a little before 05:00 when we had a transfer. As it turns out, the transfer was for a pt that my partner is related to. Thankfully, the transfer went without incident and the pt and I had a lovely chat all the way to Big City.
Yesterday was spent running to the Big Town for lunch and shopping with Mom and Kirst. Today, we went to church, had an amazing service. After we got back home. the 4 of us enjoyed fajitas. My time typing this and stitching while enjoying my fuzzy pajama pants was interrupted when my family decided to take a drive to see what we could see when they kept hearig sirens. Vasically, my family helps compose the rubberneckers that tend to annoy paramedics, EMTs, firefighters, police, etc. while they're working. Keep in mind, it was/still is snowing. I tagged along to try to keep them out of trouble. Anyhow, we saw nothing, but did get fuel and milk. Now I'm back in my chair and hoping to get to stitch! I'll try to post more in a bit. I hope youns are all warm, safe, and happy today!
 Happy Stitching!

Not Much Excitement...

I’m afraid there’s just not much report since my last post. I got 3 stitcheries ready for Valentine’s Day. I’m a bit behind the times. January felt like it lasted  for 2.5 months and now Valentine’s Day is just around the corner!
Cutting the fabric and centering the pattern always makes me a bit nervous....

Here’s the new projects! I think I’ll probably start on them today since their holiday is almost upon us and give “Cinnamon Heart” a short break. It’s funny, I didn’t use to bounce from project to project unless I was making magnets and stitching in between steps. Funny how things change! I’m back at work today and hoping that it will be a nice day to stitch betwixt everything else! Here’s a pic of my last bit of progress on Cinnamon Heart:

The sun and moon were both out this morning when I left for work; I guess they was both just as confused as I was about it becoming morning so fast!

I’ll try to post more later. Blogger is being very cranky today.  I think it needs a nap already!
