Autumn at Sunflower Ridge

I’ve been working on this piece since a couple of shifts ago. Its”Autumn at Sunflower Ridge” from the Woolly Ewe Needleworks. It’s been coming along nicely! I changed the colors from Gentle Arts Floss to DMC. I’m using colors 420, 4130 for leaves, 937, 3371, 3790, 435, 676, 310, 3826, 3031, and 3021. I don’t remember the color of the linen; I’ll try to check tomorrow and let youns know. I ordered it from the fabric store.com. All of the craft stores  in the area have very, very limited linen options. Plus, they’re super pricey. The catch with ordering this is that I don’t know what count each linen is until it arrives. I used a yardstick and figured out that this one is 36 count, so it worked out nicely! Well, as long as I have good lighting, lol!
Last Sunday we dismissed at my church and went to a revival at a church in Easyville. A group of little boys were singing The Wise Man Built His House Upon the Rock. A lil guy went running up to the front, pacifier in his mouth, to join them. He tripped going up the stairs, but got up without missing a beat. He kept his pacifier in, but tried to join in with the hand motions- it was adorable! One of the little boys tried to pick him up and carry him back to their pew when they finished. He was struggling to get the lil chunk up. He just dropped the baby once. Gotta give him credit-  the littlest guy is a tough lil bugger! The lil boy did end up succeeding. He had to lean back and the baby’s feet still dragged, but I had to admire his determination!
Today I’m at work. I did make it to church today!!!! We got a call before our shift had even begun, so I wasn’t sure that it would happen. Usually, I’m 10-15 min early, but today I was right on time. Which meant a slightly delayed en route time. Still, 8:01 ain’t bad when the shift starts at 8! We had a 94 yof that had fallen. She had an approximately 1” laceration with swelling over her R eye. Poor thing was bleeding like a stuck pig. The firefighter on scene went in his private vehicle and didn’t have any supplies with him, so she was still bleeding pretty bad when we showed up. I thought it was going to be a much larger cut from all the blood and clots on the floor, but it wasn’t. Someone had just shoved a dish towel by her head, no pressure or anything. Not really sure what they was trying to accomplish. Even if the was just trying to clean up, they would’ve needed a much larger towel and probably more than one. She was a chipper lil gal. Told me that her feet slipped (despite her non slip socks) and hit her head. No loss of consciousness, no vision changes, no dizziness. Wanted to go to Big Town Hospital. Her son was getting on my nerves. Fortunately, she was able to stand, take a couple of steps, and pivot to the cot. All with assistance , of course.  Once we got her into the ambulance, we finished bandaging her wound and cleaned her up some. She was joking with us and in great spirits! She told me that she was going to have another black eye now. She was correct- I watched it darken and swell throughout the transport. She told me that she’s 94 years old, lives alone, and that she fell out of her chair last time  and ended up with a black eye. She was proud that she hasn’t broken any bones though! Not a bad run- 94 years old, couple of recent falls, and no broken bones!!!! We chatted a little bit on the way to the hospital. Well, it was really more yelling than anything else- she’s extremely hard of hearing and I wasn’t too far behind her today! Surprisingly, we made it back in time for me to go to church!!!! Had a wonderful service!
Mom works every day at the daycare this week, so it’s going to be a busy week. Plus, I traded my Saturday shift for a coworker’s Friday, so I won’t be any help then or on Wednesday. We’re hoping to go to a craft show in Ozark on Saturday once Kirst gets off. Who knows, we might all be too wore out to go! I’ve got a couple of shifts off mid October for craft shows, and I’m greatly looking forward to it!!!! If youns don’t hear from me much this week, that’s why!
I hope youns have had a wonderful weekend and that it’s smooth sailing through the week!

Moments with Mom # I don’t know

Mom, singing in a deep voice after I mentioned that Dad and I went to O’Reilly’s, “O, O, O Reilly’s, pickup trucks!”

Kirst, looking confused, “Mom, it’s auto parts.”

Mom: “Oh, that makes more sense. I didn’t understand the pickup trucks part.”

Giveaway!!!!

This is my 100th post!!!!! Call me crazy if you want, but I consider that a pretty big deal! Especially since I didn't think I would be capable of blogging (big thanks to Coni from Spinster Stitcher for explaining how in a way that made sense to my technologically challenged brain!) and that if I did some how manage to have a blog, that no one would read it (except my Mom. Hi, Mom!) Youns have proven me wrong, and I've never been happier about being wrong! Youns are awesome and I love youns for putting up with me! To celebrate, I am going to give away a Sew Happy Stitcher t-shirt. This will be open to the US and international. The giveaway will end Tuesday morning at 08:00 with an announcement of the winner to follow later that day, Lord willin' and the creeks don't rise! (And assuming I don't forget. Some days I forget like its going out of style!) The winner will be selected by some form of randomness. Don't worry, I'll make sure you each get an equal chance!  To enter:
 1. Comment on this post. 2. Comment your answer to: If your life had a gag reel, what would be on it? Good luck!

Rainy Day Update

Stitchin' rose, I apologize for not giving you a clue on what goes with the sheep. Here's an update photo:
I'm not sure how I will finish it. I'm debating about a pillow for this one and maybe mounting the first one on a wooden thingie-ma-jigger at home (I'm at work, so no pic of the whatchamacallit today). I'm really, really hoping to finish it up today!!!!! That said, I'm at work and its rainy out. Rain seems to mean more wrecks and more folks deciding to go to the hospital since their plans are rained out anyway (usually this is the folks that always have the same complaint that are frequent fliers. This is not referring to the folks that have genuine health problems that call a lot. We get a lot of folks that say that their back is killing them and they can't take it anymore or folks claiming chest pain to get out of work. These folks are terrible actors/actresses. They are also more worried about playing on their phones than answering questions and allowing us to assess them. The pain one tends to be folks looking to get a high off of our narcs- they don't realize we have stringent rules on when we can and cannot give them, and that most of consider a pt that is more focused on playing games on their phone or napping not in need narcotic level pain relief). The temperature did drop dramatically from yesterday. Yesterday it was high 80s, but felt like 91. Today my phone is saying low-mid 70s. We might see a few more respiratory calls than usual. 70s is still usually warm enough that it doesn't trigger asthma/COPD exacerbations, but the weather has been weird, so it could happen. Since the weather is bleak, there is also a higher-than-usual chance of high priority calls. When the helicopters can't, or won't, fly, folks start trying to die. I tell you, its just so rude of them!
I've been trying to work on figuring out some degree of scheduling with my time to help me accomplish more, use my time better, so on and so forth. What that means for youns is that I am going to try to start blogging on a more regular basis. I would love to blog daily, but some days are crazy, so I don't foresee that happening. That said, almost daily should be a possibility! I miss our chats when ever its been a while since the last post (like now). And I become even wordier than usual when I'm not posting as much. 😉
I think I'm done yammering for a bit. I would love to hear what youns have been up to lately!  Oh, just one more thing (now I sound like Columbo!). this is my 99th post. To celebrate 100 posts, I am going to announce a giveaway in the next post. It should be put up today, hopefully shortly after this one. Stay tuned-

To Do List

Well, I was hoping to show youns a picture, but I can’t get it to load onto blogger. I haven’t stitched since I got off of work. We got a call roughly 30 seconds after I last wrote to youns. I did get some stitching and Reba episodes in after we got back from the call. Fortunately, she went to the lil hospital one town over, so it didn’t take too long! Today has not been as productive as I had hoped for it to be; I’m seriously considering crumpling up my to do list and stitching instead. I think it would be the better- and funner 😋 option! I hope youns are having a wonderful evening!

Baaaa’s Update

Sunday night before going to bed I stitched part of the grass for Baaa. He looked hungry. I’ve not gotten to stitch yet today. This morning both of the 24hr trucks were away on calls, so I skimmed over the 12 hr truck in case we would get a call. Then I got my chores finished and most of the QAing done (I finished it a bit later). All 3 crews ate breakfast together at a local restaurant. We had a blast and quite possibly terrorized some of folks with our alternating childish behavior towards each other and gallow’s humor. Oh well, maybe they won’t call now and I can stitch instead! A great bonus was that our favorite waitress was there!!!  Since then, I’ve  spent some time putting together orders for  a few things online. Some of it is craft supplies, others are needed and not-so-needed things, lol. I finally ordered my new razor though! That was definitely needed. The last blade on mine is starting to show it’s age, and I might end up with porcupine legs if the new one takes longer than expected to arrive! I attempted a nap unsuccessfully- I was too distracted by wanting to update youns and my hands are aching to hold needle and thread, so I’m off to stitch and watch more Reba episodes, Lord willin’ and the creeks don’t rise! (And the people in our district remain healthy and the frequent fliers non-needy).

Sunday Vampire

Well, I was all excited this morning. Minion and I had stopped at Mickey D's this morning- well, technically it was for Minion, but I just had to get a sweet tea and hashbrown. :) We were on our way to my church when we got a call (our 12 hr is BLS today, so we split the 24hr double medic truck so we could run 3 ALS ambulance. This made my truck first up for call) for a 51 yof having muscle spasms in her hips and back, unable to walk. We both looked at each other and rolled our eyes since we both felt it would probably turn out to be bogus. She was laying on the bed in a very, very cramped bedroom. She told me that she tweaked her knee yesterday getting out of the shower and that it is so bad today that she can't move or walk. I tried to talk her into letting us help her walk, but she refused to try. Minion had to turn sideways to get past a dresser, so packing her out was not going to be easy. Fire also didn't come, so we had to call for another truck to come. One firefighter did show up shortly after this, so we rearranged a lot of furniture while waiting for the other truck to come. This included pulling drawers out of a dresser, clearing off the top, and moving the dresser. Apparently it takes a paramedic and an EMT combined several minutes to figure out anti-theft drawers. I tell you, we're so smart, we're brilliant! 🙄 Once the other truck arrived, we got her on a mega mover with the pt doing her part by screaming and putting on a good show (seriously, she deserved an award for that).2 climbed over the bed while the other 3 of us remained on the floor. Even with the dresser moved, the corner was still a tight squeeze, but we succeeded in not banging her head, so all was well! Once we got her moved to the ambulance, the pt's VS confirmed what we were afraid of- HR was in the 70s, BP was 116 over something normal, and pulse ox was good. Which, with how the pt was screaming and saying that she couldn't handle the pain, means that either VS were wrong or the pt was lying... guess which one we went with? Granted, some meds (like beta blockers) can prevent the HR and/or BP from increasing in a normal response to pain, blood loss, etc, but none of the meds she takes would cause that. Basically, we had a "vampire" as my medical director likes to say. We usually just call them seekers, but vampire is more fun to say. Anyhow, she relaxed after a few min. We chatted and laughed all the way to Big City (she hates Local Hospital- believe me, I tried to talk her into that!). She did good until I told her we was a few min away. Then, right on cue, she started her act again. Guess she feels she needs a  few min to get into the role. I doubt Big City Hospital will fall for it either. I was pretty upset about missing church over that, but it is what is.
God worked it out though; my Bible Study about praying more effectively ended up lasting over 2 hours and I was definitely blessed by it! God is good all the  time, and all the time God is good! I hope youns have had a great Sunday! Hopefully, I'll be able to squeeze some more Reba episodes and stitching in later! Right now is supper time!
 Happy Stitching,

Overdue Update

My apologies for not updating in a while. I was planning on updating youns on Sunday; instead I made it to the church parking lot, threw up, came home, and rested the rest of the day in between bouts of sickness. As a result I called in sick for Monday. Thankfully, I was able to get back to my normal routine on Tuesday. Anyhow, here’s Autumn Blessings:

In desperate need of ironing, but finished all the same!!!!! I just finished it and I’m super excited!!!!!!!  I used the original DMC colors for all except for: 3838 in place of 407 and ecru in place of 3864. I’ve greatly enjoyed this one!!!!!!!!!! I’m planning on stitching another one to make the fun last! Hmmmmm, too bad I can’t make a good book stretch on and on the same way!!!! 🤓
Happy Stitching!!!!
