Sisters

Question of the Day: What does it mean when your little sister gives you a cup that says this?  Is she calling me crazy? Should I be insulted? I mean, if I’m crazy, she’s crazy too, since we’re a lot alike in a lot of ways! So, if that’s the case, is she calling herself crazy as well? Hmmmmm, I’ll have to ponder on this while I do some housework... What’s your thoughts on it?

I forgot I was short...

So, I’m back at work today. Every third day really feels more like every other day. Anyhow, it’s been interesting. I woke up out of a dead sleep at 02:45 thinking I was late for work, just to realize that I was dreaming. Went back to sleep, got up got ready for work, went to work,  chatted with my partner, checked the truck, so on and so forth. No call for a few hours. I strongly feel that this call came because I had just changed into my sweat pants and decided I was going to start lunch. I tell ya, this job will make the most skeptic person superstitious. But I digress. So we head off to the local nursing home for an elderly man that’s weak with flu-like symptoms and weakness. When we get there, I get a report from the staff member who tells me that he started getting sick last night. I found my pt in the pt on the toilet in the half-of-a-closet sized bathroom after he just finished vomiting.  The  CNA in there with him tells me that he’s additionally having diarrhea. We reassure the gentleman that there’s no hurry, we’ll check him out and take him to the hospital once he’s finished. Well, the CNA helped him get cleaned up as the nurse tells us that he usually can walk (yay!), just to crush us by saying that he’s too weak to do so today (I sho sad!). I was closest to the door, so I go in to get on his other side. The CNA and I decided it would be easiest to help him stand and pivot so that he could sit down on the cot. Now, it’s important for me to tell you that I’m 5’. In fact, if you want to get technical, I’m actually a hair under 5’. This gentleman is at least 6’, probably a shade over. So, the CNA and I each get under his arms and lift. Now, she did great holding up her side. And I held up my side, no problem. Well, not with the weight anyhow. Only problem is, I forgot I was short (I do this on occasion), so lifting him up to my shoulder still left him with his knees dragging the floor. My partner read my mind like he usually does, and magically appeared and took over my side. It’s amazing how a lil height makes a difference! I almost had a first today on top of it all. *PLEASE NOTE, this following sentence is not for those that get grossed out easy!*I’ve played slip n slide on caca before (we had to get the patient off the floor and out to the cot after they had diarrhea). I’ve dealt with patients covered in poo. I’ve helped elderly patients clean up after their bowel movement before. *OK, faint of stomach, YOU CAN RETURN TO READING HERE. But I almost gagged from the smell in the bathroom! It was like a sauna in there and my stomach was pretty much empty, but seriously?!? This has never happened to me before when I’ve not been sick, and that’s counting much smellier and messier situations!!!! Am I losing my touch???? Not gonna lie, I’m a bit worried about this.
I was able to get my food cooked and all immediately upon turning in my finished report after the call, so if worse comes to worse, I’ve not totally lost my ability to deal with unpleasant odors! Turns out, boiling my frozen dumpling thingies was a bad idea. Who knew?!? It turned into a disintegrated pile of mush.  And the sauce I picked for them was a very bad choice. And for some reason , my veggies turned out weird. It was probably a blessing in disguise that I didn’t get to eat before the call! I have a feeling that this is not going to be my day. Well, I’m  gonna return to recovering from my highly disappointing lunch by eating the surprise fudge round (super healthy choice, right?) I found while watching a movie. This will probably be followed by therapeutic stitching that hopefully won’t be interrupted by another call. And quite possibly a nap. Which is another thing that tends to attract tones, but hopefully won’t today :). I hope your day is filled with fresh air and a tasty lunch!
Happy Stitching,

Gray Skies

Well, I think I’ve figured out to post photos. The only problem is that the app I had to download has only backed up so many photos, none of which are the ones needed. I’ve been having a hard time getting any gumption to do anything today. I’m blaming it on the dreary skies here in my lil book of Missouri. I did finally manage to get off my hiney to clean the kitchen and tackle some laundry at least! Hopefully, I’ll get my energy back later.  I’ll tell youns all about my interesting day yesterday, and hopefully update with some photos, later today. In the meantime, I’m off like a herd of turtles to rescue the bacon I was frying before it burns!
Happy Stitching!

Wowzers!

Wowzers! I can honestly say that I never expected such an outpouring of welcome-ness!!!! Thank you so much to everyone  that commented and checked out my lil blog! So, now to answer a few questions. I stitch a wide variety things. Really anything that catches my eye, from primitives to shabby chic to vintage style! I have only recently started stitching counted cross stitch, and have been enjoying the adventure! I’m currently working on “Cinnamon Heart” by Notforgottenfarm Farm Samplers.  I’ll post a picture once I figure out how to 🧐.  It could take a while 😉! I’m really enjoying this piece, it’s a beautiful design! That said, I found out it is not a good one to stitch while watching a movie! I ended up frogging several rows by the time it was all said and done, lol. I’m back on track now though! Now, for Michelle’s question. I can write some about calls I’ve gone on. I’ll change names and other demographic information to protect my patients and to comply with HIPPA. Well, I’m at work now, so I guess that’s all for now!
 Happy Stitching!

Greetings Everybody!

Hi everybody! My name is Emily Swisher, aka Emmy. Unless you are my coworker, then it's Em. There will be a whole cast of characters we will meet together later on, such as Fiona the Giant Flamingo, my critic. So, I guess this is the part where I introduce myself. Well, for starters, this is the first time I have ever even attempted writing on a blog, let alone starting my own blog. I have to give a huge shout out to Coni from Spinster Stitcher (which is a much better blog and funner*  read, might I add) for making this possible by guiding me through the whole how-to-start-a-blog concept. So, please bear with me as I attempt to figure this out. After all, we are talking about what is probably the only 20-something out there that only has a Facebook account (quite reluctantly, might I add) that I check once every few months  because a coworker made me let her set it up. Sooooo, yeah, technology and I are totally besties.....  not! I am single, love to read, stitch, and enjoy attempting to play the guitar much to my sister's cat's dismay. I am also a full time paramedic at a local ambulance service, which means that every third day I am away from home for at least 24 hours. Whether we are busy or not, will determine how many/often posts will appear on those days. Hopefully, there will be plenty of posts from work, lol :). I have a dog named Banjo, that is handsome, energetic, and loves to chase (he prefers guard) our lone chicken. I'll post a picture of him if I ever figure out how to. Basically, he is everything I am not. He also loves to play and attempts to get me to run daily, which never happens unless I'm trapped in a burning house with an angry bear and rabid skunk chasing me. Or a sale at Hobby Lobby during-which-everybody-that-has-ever-lived-and-their-dogs are at. Then its watch out Grandma, I'm headed to the stitching area! Well, I will try to write a more entertaining post later. Also, please know, my "n" and "b" keys stubbornly refuse to cooperate and do their jobs on my laptop, the turds. I tell ya, good help is so hard to find these days! I try to catch all the mistakes by copying and pasting from other areas. That said, if you see a weird new word, that just means that I either missed it, or created a new word. (See "funner" above.) So, everybody, thanks for putting up with my wordiness and please introduce yourselves in the comments section!
Happy Crafting,
Emmy

*Its a word- look it up. Actually, don't. I doubt that Miriam-Webster has listened to my ideas on what words should exist. ;)
